Your next storefront may start with a question, not a homepage
Shopify’s agentic expansion makes catalog accuracy and channel controls practical operating work. Discovery and checkout still differ by channel.

The useful part
Keep these three things in mind.
- AI-channel discovery and in-channel checkout are different capabilities.
- Check eligibility and channel controls in the store’s actual setup.
- Improve standalone product information before forecasting new demand.

An expansion, with different buying paths
On March 24, 2026, Shopify announced an expansion of Agentic Storefronts, including product discovery for ChatGPT users. Current documentation describes multiple AI channels and says agentic storefronts are active by default for eligible stores. Operators can manage channels from the Agentic area of Shopify admin.
The buying path matters. Shopify currently describes ChatGPT as a discovery referrer, with checkout on the merchant’s online store. Other supported channels can use Shopify-powered direct checkout when that capability is activated. Do not assume that appearing in an AI conversation means every purchase happens inside that conversation.
Make the product understandable without the homepage
Our operating interpretation is straightforward: a shopper may meet an individual product before seeing the story surrounding it. Review a small set of important products as standalone propositions. Can someone understand what is included, which variant fits their need, and what the relevant delivery or return conditions are?
For a hypothetical travel accessory, “ideal for every trip” gives less useful context than accurate dimensions, compatible uses, and a clear description of what the package contains. Keep claims specific enough to verify. This is a product-information exercise, not a new invitation to fill descriptions with speculative AI-search keywords.
Audit eligibility and controls before chasing reach
Read the channel-specific documentation and check the settings visible in your own admin. Product discovery can use Shopify Catalog; Google’s path also involves its own commerce infrastructure. Availability and checkout behavior should be checked for the intended channel rather than inferred from the general announcement.
Begin with a short register: enabled channel, included products, checkout destination, policy owner, and where you will inspect orders or referrals. Then review the actual customer journey where you have access. Record missing or confusing information as a fixable issue.
This is useful preparation for a merchant with a well-maintained catalog. It is not a reason to forecast a new revenue stream from availability alone. Discoverability, a recommendation, and a completed order are different observations. Keep those stages separate when evaluating what the channel contributes.
